We have recently completed a new-build house set within a fantastic paddock overlooking the Surrey hills. The Arts and Crafts style house features brickwork detailing, stone and oak across all elevations. The front door opens to a 2-storey winding staircase providing an exquisite entrance lobby leading to a beautifully detailed Thomas Ford & Sons kitchen which links to the dining room and glazed office that all look out across the rear gardens.

The new-build hillside farmhouse and barn we recently completed are featured in the summer edition of the OKA magazine as the settings for their latest range of furniture.
The furniture is shown in interior room settings and on the terrace adjacent to the contemporary brick-faced kitchen wing of the farmhouse with its striking timber roof and Crittal windows. Other pages show settings elsewhere in the gardens – designed by Rae Wilkinson – and alongside the separate black timber studio barn and poolhouse.

We have added a new gallery to our Project Showcase with images of the extensive oak barn renovation we completed in April 2023 (see below). Much careful consideration has been given to ensure that the integrity of the building has been preserved. Particular attention was given to renovating the original oak timbers, leaving many of them exposed in the finished interior which, with its polished concrete floor and sleek modern kitchen, contrasts with the traditional exterior.

Alongside his commercial design work, our website designer James Kessell is a practising artist working across a range of media and disciplines. KM Grant were pleased to co-support his recent exhibition 'Saints' at The Crypt Gallery in Norwich. Featuring a body of twelve larger-than-life charcoal portraits alongside a 12 by 8 foot charcoal and coaldust triptych remembering the Aberfan Disaster of 1966.
While James works on commissions and continues to make more work in this series, his 'Self-portrait (after surgery)' is currently part of the prestigious Ruth Borchard Self Portrait Prize 2023 exhibition. We are also pleased to be supporting his latest project which aims to raise awareness of the effects of cancer treatment on women – more soon.
We have just completed the conversion of a very dilapidated barn to a three-bedroomed home. The photo above shows the extent of the timber decay in the roof structure – the 'after' photo below showing our dramatic transformation.
The barn sits within rolling countryside and has been converted sympathetically regarding its vernacular structure whilst introducing contemporary features including a dark wood kitchen and modern bathrooms.

One of our talented contractors Darren Stevens played a key role in the team responsible for installing the Gold medal-winning Over The Wall Garden at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival in July.
The garden was designed by Matthew Childs as a joyful uplifting space to highlight the work done by Over the Wall, a charity supporting children with rare illnesses and disabilities.
Working with Yoreland Design, Darren was responsible for hand-rendering the main feature of the garden – a large curving blue wall and a vibrant orange curved wall seen through a 'sunrise' opening.
The garden also received the award for Best Show Garden and the Best Construction Award. Congratulations Darren on your amazing work and success!

While working at one of our current projects, Dave begins to wonder if his new apprentice really has the necessary skills.
We are currently contstructing a substantial lakeside house built from natural stone with large oak-framed window bays and a Welsh slate roof.
Mitchell Evans Architects were commissioned to design a building of architectural merit that would be appropriate to its setting and which would continue to look good and function effectively into the next century.
Making the most of this glorious 5-acre site in the heart of a Surrey village, they have more than fulfilled their brief with a 'butterfly' design that takes full advantage of the breathtaking views over the lakes and gardens. As with all the buildings we work on, this home of approximately 500sq.m will be fitted out to a high specification and with close attention to details.

For several months we have been operating out of a site office while we carried out the major refurbishment and extensions to The Estate Yard. We are now pleased to announce that we have moved back in and are enjoying our larger, lighter and more airy offices.
The re-design was by Elspeth Beard Architects and the working drawings by Stedman Blower.
And for anyone unfamiliar with how it used to look...
At an awards night at the Grand Hotel, Brighton, attended by over 350 people from the construction industry , we were delighted to win the South East Region LABC Award for Best Local Builder.
Site Agent Robert Edwards has now been with us for 25 years and we thank him for his hard work, loyalty and reliability. He is a talented tradesman and his all-round skills are an asset to KM Grant. On top of that, Robert is also very successful at the sport of Bowls.
Since taking it up in 2003 he has to date won 19 County competitions in Short Mat Bowls. In this current 2014/2015 season, Robert has won 6 out of the 8 County competitions, of which 5 are at National level and it is the first time in the history of Surrey County Short Mat Bowls that someone has won all 5 National competitions at County level.
So, well done to Robert twice over!!
